Frequently asked questions about granite, quartz, and ultra compact worktops by Cambrian Granite from initial quote to final fitting.

Material
There are several factors you need to consider before deciding on which material to choose. Head to our product page to compare each material.
Yes – we send samples out free of charge. Simply go to our product page, select up to 3 samples, and we will send them out within 2 working days.
Each material differs. As granite is a natural material, each slab can differ in size, but they are normally roughly 2.9m x 1.7m. A standard slab of quartz is 3m x 1.4m but they are also available in a “jumbo” size of 3.2m x 1.55m. Ultracompact surfaces (Dekton) come in one slab size – 3.2m x 1.4m.
- Dekton is available in thicknesses of 8mm, 12mm, and 20mm.
- Quartz is available in thicknesses of 12mm, 20mm, and 30mm.
- Granite is available in thicknesses of 20mm and 30mm.
Custom thicknesses are available – speak to the team about your requirements.
As granite is a natural material and each piece is unique, we would advise that you come and inspect the slabs to ensure you are happy with your piece.
Dekton and quartz are both manmade and each slab is the same so there is less need to view a slab. You are more than welcome to visit our showroom or request a free sample.

Each material requires different levels of care. As a rule of thumb, we recommend the following ways to look after your worktops:
For day to day cleaning, use warm soapy water. For stubborn stains, use a non-abrasive cleaner and pad in light circular motions – we strongly advise speaking to the manufacturer to discuss specific cleaning products they recommend to ensure your warranty remains intact. Do not leave the product on for too long as it may saturate the worktop.
Do not use bleach, vinegar, acidic or abrasive cleaners and be careful when placing cloths on your worktop that have been in contact with these things.
We offer a care kit with all quartz and granite worktops.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer chopping boards.
If you have found a worktop colour that you like from a national kitchen supplier, like Wren Kitchens, B&Q or Wickes, we can provide a colour match service to help you find something similar – contact us here.
Templating & Fitting
We aim to provide quotes within 2 working days but this may change depending on individual requirements. Once a quote has been signed off there is currently a two-week wait for template bookings depending on the time of year. After templating, we aim to fit within 7 days providing the template is signed off in time for production.
The day before templating or fitting (usually in the afternoon) our team will be in touch to give you a 2-hour timeslot when you can expect us to arrive the following day. You can also request a call on the day to let you know when we are on our way.
This depends on the complexity of your project and can take anywhere between 1 – 3 hours.
Unfortunately not. Any changes will require a new quote & template to be completed and the previous order will be cancelled. This will incur additional costs and any outstanding payments will need to be made before a new quote and template are completed. New quotes, templates, and fitting are subject to the same timescales as other orders and cannot be fast-tracked.
Any furniture that worktops will be fitted on to (kitchen cabinets, vanity units, tables) must be installed. If possible, we will need to see any hobs, taps and/or sinks that will require cutouts so we can make sure we get accurate measurements. All existing worktops and/or surfaces must also be removed.
Fitting usually takes between 2 – 4 hours.
We will call you the day before to give you an estimated 2-hour time slot when we expect to arrive. If needed, we can call you on the day with a more accurate time to ensure you are available.
Normally the job will require two fitters, and providing the area is clear and ready we will fit your worktops. That’s all there is to it!
Please make sure there is adequate room to park and offload for our fitters and inform us if there could be access issues. If parking permits are required, please arrange these before fitting.
Pricing
When we create a quote, there are a several things we consider.
- The price bands that the material and colour fit in to.
- The amount of material required. We calculate a price based on yield i.e. how many slabs are required to complete the work. For example, if your worktop is 1000mm x 1000mm and a slab is 1000mm x 800mm, we will need to use 2 slabs to complete the work. We will always try to maximise usage of each slab to calculate the best price.
- Templating, fabricating and fitting costs, and your location.
We will always look at the most cost effective solution when planning a worktop to ensure we remain competitively priced.
Once you are happy with your quote and decide to go ahead, we will require 50% of the cost prior to templating. The final 50% will need to be paid 24 hours prior to fitting.
All payments must be paid by bank transfer – all details will be on your invoice.
Quartz is often the cheapest option followed by granite. Dekton is usually the most expensive because of the time & effort it takes to manufacture.
