Which material should I choose for my worktop?

Do you want an indoor or outdoor worktop? Do you need a worktop that is easy to maintain? Do you have a colour scheme in mind? Each material has different properties and can be used in a variety of ways. Here we compare each material to make it easier to choose what is right for you.

Granite

Granite is 100% natural and quarried across the world. As a result, no two pieces are the same so if you are looking for something unique this would be ideal. Our granite worktops come with a range of warranties of up to 15 years.

It is incredibly strong and can be used outdoors due to its UV resistant properties. Granite is also ideal for those who love baking as it remains cool to the touch, ensuring your ingredients stay cool and your cakes & pies are Bake Off worthy! One thing to consider is that it is porous so it can absorb liquids (like red wine and tea!) and is susceptible to scratching if not taken care of.

Ideal for

  • Indoor and outdoor use
  • Worktops and tabletops
  • Vanity units
  • Fire hearths
  • Outdoor cladding and flooring
  • BBQs
  • Monuments and water features

Quartz

Made from a mixture of natural quartz, resin, and glass or metallic elements, our Quartz range features over 400 colours to match your décor. Often the cheapest option, our quartz worktops come with a range of warranties up to 25 years.

Unlike granite, it is shock, scratch, and stain-resistant and is incredibly low maintenance. If you are a keen Hincher, the worktops can be cleaned with simple soap & water and will shine like new. Quartz is not heat or UV resistant so it is not ideal for outdoor spaces and you cannot place hot objects (like hot pans or baking trays) directly onto it.

If you choose a Silestone worktop, there is a range of matching sinks available. See our FAQs for the full range.

Marble

Marble was once used by the rich as a show of wealth – now it is used to add the ultimate touch of luxury to any living space. Like granite, marble is 100% natural which makes each slab unique.

As marble is softer than granite, it stains easily so there are limitations to where it is used – as such, we do not recommend marble worktops in kitchens.

Ideal for

  • Outdoor use
  • Bathrooms
  • Decorative panelling
